the way this validated my neurospicy, creative brain! you're so right about listening to your body and instincts--forcing things has never ended well for me.

I don't have adhd but I'm a homeschool mom and have a child with special needs so I have to be very flexible too. Sometimes I'm just too tired and stare at a blank screen too.

As someone who is also neurodivergent, this piece definitely connected with. Maintaining a full sense of structure is something I always struggle with, but I go wherever my brain tells me— from one project to the next, and it can be pretty fun

I enjoyed reading about your process and the flexibility in it. I want to check out that writing machine. Do you find it helps with flow? I'm trying to get out of the habit of editing while I write. Handwriting allows for it but like you mention I then need to digitalize it.

Hi Katie, yes it does help with flow and really curtail editing, but I have to warn you that it's quite expensive. I was lucky enough to get one used from a local grad student who was selling his on Facebook Marketplace. He noted that he had bought it with the intention of writing his dissertation on it, but never ended up using it. So there's always that risk. But I have written over 20,000 words on it in the past 2 weeks, so I'm pleased.
